Your financial decisions deserve a plan that connects them.

You may be saving for retirement while paying for college, deciding what to do with company stock, or wondering how your investments will eventually provide income.

Each decision affects the others. We help you understand those connections, weigh your options, and decide what to address first.

Retirement planning in New Jersey, with a clearer picture of your options.

When could you retire? What could you comfortably spend? Which accounts would you draw from, and when should you claim Social Security?

We help you explore these questions before you need to act. Together, we evaluate retirement timing, income needs, investment strategy, and taxes so you can see the tradeoffs before you decide.

If you’re already retired, we help you manage withdrawals and adjust your plan as your needs change.

Financial planning that accounts for New Jersey taxes.

New Jersey taxes capital gains as ordinary income, phases out its retirement income exclusion once total income passes $150,000, and still has an inheritance tax on assets left to siblings, nieces, nephews, and partners. If you commute, New York tax adds another layer.

We consider how those rules fit into your plan, including investment sales, retirement withdrawals, Roth conversion timing, and equity compensation. When needed, we coordinate with your tax professional so your financial and tax decisions work together. Our guide to the New Jersey retirement income exclusion shows how we think about it.

Frequently asked questions

We specialize in serving independent women and professional women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s who want personalized financial planning and investment management.

We are based in Hoboken, NJ, but we work with clients across the country virtually. We meet clients in Hoboken and Jersey City in person and work with women throughout New Jersey, including Bergen, Essex, Morris, Somerset, Monmouth, and Middlesex counties.

We are paid only by our clients. We receive no commissions, we do not sell products, and we are a fiduciary 100% of the time. Read more about how Align is different.

Yes, with an exclusion. From age 62, a single filer can exclude up to $75,000 of pension and IRA income ($100,000 married filing jointly) if total income is $100,000 or less, with partial exclusions up to $150,000 and nothing above that. Social Security is not taxed. The $150,000 line is a cliff, not a phase-out, so withdrawal and Roth conversion timing matter.

Yes. We plan around the NJ/NY cross-border tax situation, especially for women with equity compensation and anyone considering a move across the river, or out of state, in retirement.

It depends on how the advisor is paid. Fee-only advisors like Align are paid only by the client, as a percentage of assets managed, a flat planning fee, or an hourly rate. Every registered adviser must disclose its fee schedule in Form ADV Part 2A. We walk through exactly how Align is paid on the first call, and this guide explains what a wealth manager typically costs.
